Imole is a platform connecting journalists in Nigeria and elsewhere with vital records and resources for in-depth reporting of the oil-rich West African country, its institutions, individuals, corporations and non-governmental organizations.
The project was developed by Musikilu Mojeed while in residence at Stanford University as Knight fellow. Mojeed had realized from his days on the beat that his colleagues in Nigeria needed pointers and information on how to get the right kinds of resources to report accurately and authoritatively on their country.
The platform points journalists in the direction of authoritative publicly available databases, legislation, contract-award records, regulations, budgets, directories, manuals and other documents that could deepen journalists’ understanding of the working of governments and corporations.
It is a fully interactive and easy-to-navigate website from which journalists and other interested individuals and groups could access resources from any part of the world.
So, basically, it is a repository of online resources and databases about Nigeria and made available in a manner that is easy to access by journalists. The tool also provides directories ( contact details for important sources in Nigeria) and training manuals (that will provide tips on documents mining, computer assisted reporting and other aspects of investigative journalism).
“These platform seeks to be your companion as you report on complex Nigeria where politicians and bureaucrats ensure that government businesses are done in secrecy and that the recently passed Freedom of Information Law never works.”
